A few habits make Ribbit ponds fall much faster. Here is how strong solvers read a board and clear it.
Read the pond as a graph, not a grid
Ribbit boards are not rows and columns — they are pads joined by connectors, and a word can only travel along a connector to a pad that touches the current one. Before you trace anything, let your eye follow the connectors and notice which pads are hubs with many neighbors and which are dead ends with only one.
Hub pads are where words overlap, so they reward attention: a single busy pad often anchors three or four answers. Dead-end pads, by contrast, can only be the first or last letter of a word, which sharply narrows what they can be.
Chase the star word first
Each board hides exactly one word longer than every other — the star word — and there is never a tie for longest. Because it is the longest path on the board, it usually crosses the pads that the shorter words share, so finding it hands you a skeleton of the whole solution.
Look for the longest run of connected pads you can spell out. Even a partial guess at the star word tells you which pads are in play, and the shorter words tend to be fragments of the same route.
Let shared pads chain your finds
Every pad belongs to at least one word, and most belong to several. When a word locks in, do not move to a fresh corner of the board — branch off the pads you just used. The letters are already under your finger, and a small change of direction often spells the next answer.
A pad only clears once every word that uses it is found, so a stubborn leftover pad is a clue: there is still a word threading through it. Trace new paths across any pad that has not yet vanished.
Explore freely, hint deliberately
There is no penalty for tracing a path that is not a word — it simply releases. That means you can test ideas at speed, dragging across pads to see what sticks, without ever hurting your streak or your time.
Hints are the only thing that costs you. The first tier highlights a starting pad for a word you have not found; the second reveals that word's full path. A no-hint clear earns the top rank, but a finished board always beats a stalled one, so spend a hint to get unstuck and go for the clean clear next time in unlimited mode or the puzzle library.
